A team of Russian and Syrian scientists is working on designing digital copies of the walls of the ancient Arwad Castle in the waters of the Syrian province of Tartus, which was built 3,000 years ago.
In statements to “TASS” agency, Victor Lebedinsky, head of the Russian-Syrian diving team, said that the mission is also planning to make copies of stone blocks that fell from the walls of the Arwad Fort.

Lebedinsky said that the Russian experts, at the request of the Syrian side, also carried out a three-dimensional laser and photogrammetric survey of some medieval archaeological sites in Tartus, including the Cathedral of Our Lady of Tartus and the Knights Templar Church in Tartus, as well as the walls of Tartous Castle and its Bruges.

The Russian researcher explained that these works must be carried out in preparation for the completion of digital copies of the mentioned archaeological sites, which will be used in the future in scientific research and in organizing efforts to protect these monuments.
