In the Russian city of Blagovchensk, a dog named Drogok who became a symbol of devotion after standing up to his neck in the water on the balcony of a flooded house in 2013 in the Far East has died.
“Drogok died of old age, he lived in our family for 17 years,” the dog’s owner, Yelena Andreeva, told RIA Novosti.
During the abnormal flood of 2013, this dog was standing up to his neck in the water all night on the balcony of a flooded house in the village of Vladimirovka and became a true symbol of devotion. The owners of the house were evacuated but the dog returned to it. In the morning his companions sailed in search of him on a boat. His owner talks about the dog’s achievement on a social networking site. And then the dog became the first hero of the Internet.
In July 2015, a bronze monument to Drogok was erected on the embankment of the Amur River in the city of Blagoveshchensk. “Drogok is a symbol of courage, sincerity and patriotism during the 2013 flood in the Amur region,” reads the plaque on the monument.
