Mohamed tops the list of the most popular names for newborn babies in Brussels

Official statistics in Belgium revealed that the name Muhammad topped the list of the most popular names for newborn babies in the capital, Brussels, in 2021.

According to data from the Belgian government statistics agency Statbel, last year a total of 18,430 children were registered in Brussels who were named Mohamed (two different ways of writing this name in Latin).

The name Muhammad by a large margin tops the list of the most popular names in the Belgian capital, while the second place goes to the name Jan (6,089 children) and the third to the name Ahmed (4166 children).

At the country level, the name Jan retains the top spot in the list (65,886 children), while the name Muhammad in total takes the fifth place (47723 children).
