Specialists from the National Medical Research Center in Novosibirsk succeeded in removing a five-centimeter tumor from the brain of a six-year-old girl.
According to the statement of neurosurgeon Sergey Chernov, a tumor the size of a tennis ball caused dislocation of the cerebral structures and compression of the fourth ventricle of the brain, which led to a violation of the outflow of cerebrospinal fluid and the development of internal hydrocephalus – an excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain.
The doctor pointed out that the tumor in this place and this large size poses a great danger to the girl’s life, as it presses on the brain stem where the vital centers are located, and that the tumor in the cerebellum tissues requires urgent surgical intervention.
In the medical center’s final statement, the following came: The surgeons removed the tumor permanently, and a positive diagnosis was made that the tumor did not reappear, and the girl was gradually recovering.
