A mysterious, highly contagious brain disease affecting young people in Canada has been revealed

82

Canadian researchers have been searching for a mysterious brain disease that mostly affects young adults for two years. Throughout the entire research period, studies have not identified the causes of its appearance.
According to the New York Times, symptoms of the disease include memory problems, muscle cramps, imbalance, hallucinations, weight loss, and pain in the extremities. Scientists compare the disease to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, also known as mad cow disease, a prion disease with a 100% mortality rate.
One of the victims of the new disease was a 30-year-old woman – she lost weight significantly, suffered hallucinations, and later lost the ability to speak and eat on her own, the newspaper said. Meanwhile, her nurse, a young student, soon started showing symptoms as well.
Doctors knew of 150 cases of the disease and eight deaths that may be related to it.
