CCTV footage captured in Jakarta, Indonesia, captured the moment a security guard “fortunately” escaped a direct lightning strike, according to local media.

The 35-year-old, who worked as a guard at a company dealing with heavy machinery in North Jakarta, was on duty when he was struck by lightning.

In the video, posted by an Indonesian media company and retweeted on social media, the man can be seen walking in the rain under an umbrella, with what appear to be huge military vehicles parked in the area. About 15 seconds after he entered the frame, an explosion and spark can be seen in the same place he walked, and then the footage shows him lying on the ground. He did not get up, and people ran towards him.
On Sunday, local media reported that the accident occurred earlier this week, adding that the police confirmed the report.

The man survived after suffering burns on his hands, according to Detik News. He was initially treated in hospital, but is now recovering at home. It is believed that the guard’s walkie-talkie, which he held in his hands, attracted the lightning discharge.
