Under the title and theme “The Arabic Language and Civilizational Communication”, the United Nations celebrates, on Saturday, the “World Day of the Arabic Language”, through many activities and celebrations.
In a statement published on its website in Arabic, the United Nations said: “The theme of this year’s World Arabic Language Day is “The Arabic Language and Civilized Communication”, and it is a call to reaffirm the important role that the Arabic language plays in building bridges of communication between people on the cusp of culture and science. literature, and many other fields.

The statement added: “The purpose of this topic is to highlight the historical role played by the Arabic language as a tool for creating and transmitting knowledge, as well as a means for advancing dialogue and laying the foundations for peace. With many resources… The theme of 2021 is of great importance in societies where globalization, digitization and multilingualism are on the rise, as it recognizes the changing nature of the world and the urgent need to promote dialogue between nations and peoples.

According to the organization, “the Arabic language is one of the pillars of the cultural diversity of humanity, and it is one of the most widely used languages ​​in the world, as it is spoken daily by more than 400 million people from the world’s population.”

In its statement, the organization indicated that Arabic speakers are distributed between the Arab region and many other neighboring regions such as “Turkey, Chad, Mali, Senegal, and Eritrea”, as “Arabic is of paramount importance to Muslims, as it is a sacred language (the language of the Qur’an), and prayer (and other acts of worship) are not performed in Islam is only by mastering some of its words, and Arabic is also a major ritual language in a number of Christian churches in the Arab region, where many of the most important Jewish religious and intellectual works in the Middle Ages were written.

And she continued: “The Arabic language allows entry into a world full of diversity in all its forms and images, including the diversity of origins, stripes and beliefs. It has also created its various forms and methods, oral, written, eloquent and colloquial, and its various lines, prose and poetic arts, wonderful aesthetic verses that capture hearts and captivate hearts in various fields that include: For example, but not limited to engineering, poetry, philosophy and singing,” pointing out that “the Arabic language prevailed for many centuries of its history as the language of politics, science and literature, and it affected, directly or indirectly, many other languages ​​in the Islamic world, such as Turkish, Persian, Kurdish, Urdu, Malay, Indonesian and Albanian. Some other African languages ​​such as Hausa and Swahili, and some European languages, especially Mediterranean ones such as Spanish, Portuguese, Maltese and Sicilian.

In the context of supporting and promoting multilingualism and multiculturalism at the United Nations, the United Nations Department of Global Communication – formerly known as the Department of Public Information – adopted a resolution on the eve of the observance of International Mother Language Day to celebrate each of the six official languages ​​of the United Nations, and accordingly, it was decided to celebrate the Arabic language On December 18, being the day on which General Assembly Resolution 3190 (D-28) of December 18, 1973, concerning the inclusion of the Arabic language among the official and working languages ​​of the United Nations, and the purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the history, culture and development of the language through preparing a program of activities and special events, according to the United Nations.
