Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, was named Person of the Year for 2021 by Time magazine on Monday.

The magazine said he was chosen for his work in space as well as electric cars, as well as his plans to take humanity to Mars and his interest in cryptocurrency.

In its announcement, the magazine wrote: “To find solutions to an existential crisis, to embody the possibilities and risks in the age of tech giants, to lead the most daring and disruptive transformations in society, Elon Musk” is TIME’s Person of the Year 2021.
The “Time” newspaper has launched this “award” since 1927, and the list of the most recent recipients of the magazine’s Person of the Year title includes Greta Thunberg, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

The magazine has often stressed that the award is not necessarily an endorsement of its recipient, but an acknowledgment of his or her influence, although Musk’s Person of the Year declaration was accompanied by a scintillating profile on the magazine’s website.

The profile focused on the billionaire’s “committing governments and industry to the strength of his ambition”. The article pointed out that a few years ago he was often ridiculed, but he achieved significant success within his own rocket company, “SpaceX”, and his Twitter account helps determine the fortunes of the stock market.

However, the article referred to Musk’s criticism, both in his personal life and in his work. The article spoke of “allegations of sexual harassment and poor working conditions”, in addition to that “colleagues described it as petty, cruel and scandalous.”
