The statement added: “We appreciate the artistic value of the film and believe that it does not in any way affect the Palestinian cause or the issue of prisoners; on the contrary, it highlights their plight and resistance, as well as their yearning for a dignified life despite the occupation.”

The statement indicated that this was also the opinion of members of the independent selection committee, which was formed by the Royal Film Commission, which chose “Princess” among other films to represent the kingdom.

The statement said that the film was successfully shown in several international film festivals, Venice (Italy), El Gouna (Egypt) and Carthage (Tunisia), as well as the Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Amman. He has won two international awards in Venice.
However, in light of the great controversy raised by the film and its interpretation by some that it harms the Palestinian cause and out of respect for the feelings of the prisoners and their families, the Royal Film Commission decided to stop presenting a “princess” to represent Jordan in the Oscars.
