Today, Thursday, the Royal Film Commission of Jordan announced that it has withdrawn the movie “Princess” from the Oscar race, despite the commission’s affirmation of its appreciation for the artistic value of the film and its belief that it does not in any way affect the Palestinian cause or the cause of prisoners.
Oman – Sputnik. According to a statement issued by the Royal Film Commission, which Sputnik obtained a copy of, “The Royal Film Commission of Jordan, the official body in the country authorized to submit films for nominations at the Oscars, has decided to withdraw the film (Princess) from the 2022 Oscars race.”
The director of the movie “Princess” announces the suspension of its screening after criticism of the Palestinian prisoners
The statement added: “We appreciate the artistic value of the film and believe that it does not in any way affect the Palestinian cause or the issue of prisoners; on the contrary, it highlights their plight and resistance, as well as their yearning for a dignified life despite the occupation.”
The statement indicated that this was also the opinion of members of the independent selection committee, which was formed by the Royal Film Commission, which chose “Princess” among other films to represent the kingdom.
However, in light of the great controversy raised by the film and its interpretation by some that it harms the Palestinian cause and out of respect for the feelings of the prisoners and their families, the Royal Film Commission decided to stop presenting a “princess” to represent Jordan in the Oscars.
