The Cairo International Film Festival, which kicks off on November 26, will witness the honoring of Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Frémaux.

It is scheduled to be honored, during the activities of the 43rd session of the festival, which will continue until December 5, according to a statement obtained by “Sputnik”, today, Saturday.

Terry Frémaux considered that his honor is not limited to his person, but includes every individual who contributed to the great success of the Cannes Film Festival throughout its history, noting that this stage is one of the most difficult stages that cinema goes through all over the world.

Frémo stated that he was happy to visit Egypt for the first time to participate in the Cairo Film Festival, which brings together many filmmakers from around the world, a huge event in which they exchange experiences on the film industry.

Regarding the Cannes Film Festival’s relationship with Egyptian cinema, Fremo said that the festival’s mission is to support international cinema, of which Egyptian cinema is a part, considering that “history has not shown the extent of the importance of Egyptian cinema in the Arab world.”

“Therefore, we decided to show some famous Egyptian films recently, as we did with Bollywood previously,” said the director of the Cannes Festival.

He added, “We are looking into the possibility of re-screening some old films and including them in the Cannes Classics section,” noting that the festival is proud of receiving great artists such as Yousry Nasrallah and Youssef Chahine, while we expect many young people in the future.

Thierry Frémaux was born in 1960 and worked in the artistic field until he held the position of artistic director of the Lumière Institute in Lyon since 1995, then became artistic director of the Cannes Film Festival in 2004 and then artistic and executive director of the same festival in 2007.

The 43rd session of the Cairo International Film Festival is scheduled to start from November 26 to December 5, in light of taking all precautionary measures to combat the Corona virus to ensure the safety of the festival participants.

The Cairo International Film Festival is one of the most important and prestigious festivals in the Arab world and in Africa, and is classified as the only festival in the Arab and African region, classified by the International Federation of Producers in Paris (FIAPF) in category “A”.
