For many years, a British resident was convinced that her mother had died, until an elderly relative found her on social networks.
In a touching family reunion story, Karen Medhurst, 65, was amazed when she received a message from her 90-year-old mother, Joyce, who she immediately contacted on Facebook via another family member.
It was amazing. I just looked at her and said, ‘Okay, that’s my mom,’ said Karen, the head chef at a retirement home in Guildford, and that was unbelievable.
A video call was arranged, which Karen described as “awesome” and said it was like we’d been together our whole lives, Surrey Live reported.
Karen was invited to visit Joyce at her home in Kent, and said: ‘There were a few tears but she is a wonderful lady and she was so glad we finally found each other.
Karen continued, “My family is clearly quite pleased with this, especially after we’ve been told for years and years that she passed away.”
In addition to reconnecting with her mother, Karen discovers that she also has a half-brother and a half-sister.
