The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade signed with the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technologies a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening industrial cooperation in the development of hydrogen technologies.
This work is in line with the two countries’ common goal of expanding the use of clean energy sources and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
The memorandum was signed by the Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, and by the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan Ahmed Al-Jaber, on the sidelines of the ADIPEC 2021 International Energy Exhibition hosted by the UAE capital Abu Dhabi. Integral to the strategic vision of our leadership, to establish and strengthen the current international cooperation that aligns with the sustainable development goals, working with the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop hydrogen technologies complements the long-term relationship between our two countries and reflects new directions for finding clean and sustainable energy sources, especially when the global economy begins to recover from Effects of the Corona pandemic.
“We aim to raise the infrastructure to a new quality level by cooperating with Russian colleagues by adopting international standards,” added the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology.
For his part, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said that Moscow and Abu Dhabi should unite their efforts and resources to accelerate the development of “green hydrogen” technologies (hydrogen produced using renewable energy facilities) and promote joint projects in international markets.
“Hydrogen energy is of particular importance in the context of green expansion. To succeed in this direction, as in the field of gas and oil, we must now combine our efforts and resources to accelerate the development of hydrogen technologies and strengthen joint ventures in international markets,” Manturov added during a press briefing.
Manturov noted that although oil and gas will remain the backbone of the global energy balance for decades to come, Russia and the United Arab Emirates have been implementing clean energy projects for more than a year, and the two countries have good potential for building cooperation in this field.
The UAE government said, early this month, that it is currently working on implementing more than 7 ambitious projects to produce clean hydrogen, targeting 25% of the share in the main export markets, in order to contribute to achieving climate neutrality.
Russia is considered one of the countries most ready for the post-fossil fuel phase because of its huge sources of alternative energy such as liquefied natural gas, nuclear energy and others, which did not prevent it from establishing unique clean energy production projects. Carbon emissions spare humanity the consequences of global warming.
