British truck driver John Burns has died after drowning in a huge quantity of brown rice amounting to 30 tons.
And the newspaper “Daily Star” said that Burns suffocated after his car was flooded with an overload of rice, causing him to suffocate and seriously injure him in the chest area.
Burns was working with 3 other drivers to transport a shipment of rice from a container ship in the port of Liverpool, to a warehouse, when a mistake occurred in loading Burns’ truck, which resulted in his car being buried under 30 tons of rice, which resulted in his death.
Burns’ company, Huber Transport, was fined £1.8m after company officials admitted the driver’s death mistake.
A statement from the Health and Safety Authority said Mr Burns had suffered “severe leg injuries, other severe chest injuries and suffocation”, and that following this investigation, a hearing on the case was scheduled to take place at Liverpool Magistrates Court on 6 June 2022. .
