Dead mermaid found off an Egyptian beach

Divers found a dead mermaid, on Sunday evening, off an Egyptian beach on the Red Sea.

The newspaper “Al-Masry Al-Youm” said that the mermaid whose body was found is an endangered marine animal, and was found in front of one of the beaches of Abusuma Bay, north of the city of Safaga in the Red Sea.

The newspaper pointed out that the mermaid is a major attraction for divers who are keen to take pictures with her in the depths of the sea.

For her part, Shaima Mohsen, one of the diving guides, said: “During our return from a diving trip, we were surprised to find a mermaid floating on the water and dead, with a length of about 3 meters.”

The diving guide attributed the cause of the mermaid’s death to a collision with a fast boat several days ago, and then the waves swept it close to the beaches, considering that the death of this animal is a major environmental loss for marine mammals in the Red Sea.

It is noteworthy that the mermaid is considered among the plant mammals, and its length ranges between 2.5 and 3.2 meters, and may sometimes reach 4 meters, while its weight ranges between 230 and 900 kilograms.

The mermaid feeds on seaweeds, and she also gets used to ascending to the surface of the sea to breathe, and that is at intervals ranging from once every 3-5 minutes, and she lives either alone or in pairs or small flocks between 3-6 individuals.
