Oncologists at Ningbo University and Shanxi University in China announced that the parasite “Toxoplasma gondii” helps fight cancer.
Scientists confirmed that the parasite lives in cancer cells, and is able to produce large quantities of proteins to counter the spread of cancer cells, according to what the “bmj” website mentioned.
During the experiment, Chinese scientists used the Toxoplasma gondii strain, which was injected into mice into cancerous cells.
Experts noted that inflammation develops at the injection site, and they recorded an increase in the effectiveness of the amount of proteins produced, which led to an increase in the rate of resistance of mice, and a slowdown in the growth of tumors.
Doctors hope that soon they will be able to develop a similar treatment for humans, and in this way it is expected that it will be possible to treat many tumors, the most important of which is prostate cancer.
Earlier, scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology came up with a method that strengthens the immune system against the development of cancer based on a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and it turns out that cancer cells that are removed, damaged and then reintroduced to the tumor can act as triggers to activate the immune system.
