The prototype of the series “Inventing Anna” was about 30-year-old Anna Sorokina from Russia, who was destined to go down in history as one of the most insidious criminals who deceived the richest people in New York.

Anna lived in Russia until 2007, then moved with her family to Germany, then the girl left for London, but soon returned, where she got a job in a PR agency.

She ended up in Paris, where she got a job at the fashion magazine Purple. It was then that I realized her dream, and decided to stay there for life.

She called herself “Anna Delphi” and went to New York in 2016. She settled in a luxury hotel, declaring from the time she entered it, that she was a close friend of the owner of the facility. She is the same, the heiress to a very wealthy German businessman.

The girl forged the necessary documents and took out loans, which allowed her to live according to her plan, dined in expensive restaurants, dressed in the most elegant clothes, worked with a fitness trainer, visited resorts and closed clubs, traveled on private planes, etc. till then.

Anna distributed money left and right, so her fame spread throughout New York.

The cunning Russian girl soon made friends among the American elite, who were infatuated with her and easily lend her money, without even asking her. And friends did not even imagine that in front of them was the daughter of a truck driver from Russia, and not a German businessman.

The fraudster took out new loans, deceived the banks, and developed faster and faster until the girl went to Marrakesh, where her card refused to work according to a proven scheme. The editor had to pay for the vacation for two, she gave 62 thousand dollars, which drove her into a huge financial hole.

In addition, the trip the fraudster took to Morocco and back was free – the company agreed to accept the money later.

Anna Delphi, whose real name is Sorokina, was arrested in 2017 on suspicion of involvement in large-scale fraud.

But the “rich heiress” was able to attribute fraud only for 275 thousand dollars (more than 19 million rubles). Without the police being able to prove anything else.

As a result, Anna was sentenced to 12 years in prison. In early 2021, the girl was released from American prison in exchange for a pardon for good behavior.

This is not exactly the end of Anna’s story, quite the contrary! Her biography attracted the attention of screenwriters and directors. Next, Netflix would buy the rights to the movie New York Magazine, directed by Jessica Pressler, which was admired by everyone.
