Newlyweds from India brave the flood and go to their wedding inside a floating cooking pot

A newlywed couple in India braved the flooded streets of their hometown after torrential rain, and decided to reach their wedding venue no matter what.

Social media users shared a video of the newlyweds sailing in a cooking pot in the flooded southern streets of Kerala to reach the wedding ceremony.

The video shows the bride and groom inside a large aluminum cooking pot, while two men and a photographer rowed to help them sail.

The Indian local news agency, BTI, reported that the couple borrowed the pot from a local temple, and confirmed that it was the “only option” available within a short time.

Later footage from the circulating video showed the newlyweds arriving safely and dry at the wedding venue, which was held inside a small temple partially flooded, and exchanging wreaths, a tradition in many Hindu wedding ceremonies.

“It turned out to be a wedding we could never have imagined,” the bride told local news channel Asianet.

According to local media reports, the groom Akash and the bride Aishwarya work in healthcare at a hospital in Chinganur.

Yesterday, Monday, rescuers searched for survivors, as the army, navy and air forces assisted in relief and rescue operations, and thousands of people were evacuated, and more than 100 relief camps were set up.

The state government expects the area to experience heavy rains over the next two to three days, starting from October 20.

In 2018, floods killed nearly 500 people, the worst floods to hit the state in nearly a century.
