Russian nutrition expert explains why rapid weight loss is dangerous

Losing weight in a week is an important event – many of us have set and achieved this goal, said Russian nutritionist Natalia Kruglova. In addition, the list of fast and effective diets is very large and you can choose any of them.

But why are such experiments dangerous to health? What is the correct way to lose weight?

According to her, the normal rate of weight loss for adults is about 2 to 4 kilograms per month, or about 500 grams or one kilogram per week. With this approach, the process will be safe for health, and the probability of retaining the results will increase significantly.

“If there is a very rapid rate of weight loss, then in the future, most likely, there will be re-weighting. In addition, most likely, this will not be due to adipose tissue, but to fluid and muscle tissue,” she said in an interview with the Federal News Agency. Which will also contribute to the return of weight. Regarding a good norm of weight loss, there are also such figures: 5-10% of the original weight over three to six months. By the way, this will already reduce the risk of the emergence and development of diseases associated with obesity. ”

She added that losing weight significantly in a short time is fraught with a range of problems. It may be the cause of the formation of gallstones, as well as the development of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and digestive system in people exposed to it. But on a completely different level are mental problems, ie eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia, eating disorders, etc.).

There is a risk of an eating disorder when a person severely restricts their diet for a period of time. In the future, the sufferer cannot stop himself from eating, and begins to eat, practically without controlling the volume and quantity of food. It is very difficult for him in the future to adhere to some kind of proper and rational nutrition.

To prevent this from happening, Natalia Kruglova advises against following a low-calorie diet that significantly limits nutrition. It will be enough to reduce the calorie content of the diet by 500-700 kcal in order to properly lose weight. In addition, it will not be necessary to include physical activity in your life, chosen according to your abilities. But it should also be appropriate: intense training for an unprepared person can turn into problems with the cardiovascular system.
