The Finnish certified manager in the field of information security, Jukka Karkainen, predicted the rapid emergence of alternatives and competitors to the existing social networking sites.

Helsinki – Sputnik. Today, Tuesday, Karkainen said in statements to “Sputnik” that “the emerging problems in global international social networks may lead to the rapid emergence of alternatives and competitors.”
The expert explained: “The ideas of creating a global international social network, an alternative to Facebook, have been circulating for a long time. I would not be surprised at all if the emerging problems lead to their appearance quickly. Personally, I would like to move to a competitor, but the alternative does not exist.”

The expert does not consider social networks already operating in some countries as an alternative to US networks.

“The impact of the social network is on the audience themselves: We use the services that other people use. We make use of our own social circle. That’s why it’s so hard to give up on Facebook, and Chinese and Russian social networks are not universal.”

“Given the size of Facebook’s social network, it is surprising how rarely it encounters technical problems or bugs,” the expert noted.

On Monday evening, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and a number of other applications owned by the company were subjected to a global outage that lasted for about seven hours. The reason, according to preliminary data, was errors in the software update.
