Denmark begins experimenting with ‘3D’ pedestrian crossings

65

The Danish city of Aarhus has launched a trial application “3D crossings” to force motorists and cyclists to wait and allow pedestrians to cross.

The new crossings are optical illusions designed on city streets, adding shades of gray to the four white markers so that the signs appear to hover a few centimeters above the ground.

Ricky Smed Winding, project manager, said that the goal of the initiative is to make drivers and cyclists more careful with pedestrians wanting to cross streets, so these spaces and fees were created to ensure safety, according to the website “Denmark in Arabic”.

It is noteworthy that “three-dimensional” crossings have been implemented in several countries, including Australia, Iceland and Thailand.
