The Special Envoy of the President of Uzbekistan to Afghanistan Ismatullah Ergachev told reporters that the SCO countries support the initiative of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to hold a high-level meeting between the SCO and Afghanistan in Tashkent.

Earlier, Mirziyoyev suggested organizing a meeting coordinated by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Afghanistan in Tashkent in 2022.

“In the near future, we are ready to hold a high-level meeting in Tashkent,” he said on the sidelines of the Valdai Club conference. Already in the framework of the (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) summit itself, we heard only positive feedback. There was not, for example, a single negative response. Everyone said it was a very good suggestion.

The Taliban movement extended its control over most of Afghanistan with the start of the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country; Its militants took control of all border crossings, and on August 15, they seized the capital, Kabul, and their fighters entered the presidential palace after President Ashraf Ghani left the country for the UAE.
