The International Football Association (FIFA) announced today, Monday, that it will hold a meeting with its member associations, to discuss the controversial idea of holding the World Cup every two years.
“The meeting with the federations will be held online on Thursday, September 30, during the period of international matches,” FIFA said in a statement.

And an American press report, published by the “Associated Press” agency, said that the International Football Association “FIFA” is continuing to challenge the European Football Association “UEFA” to hold the FIFA World Cup every two years.

The report indicated that FIFA reveals its endeavors to host the Men’s World Cup every two years by mobilizing the support of football fans around the world to help counteract the resistance of both Europe and South America.

Both “UEFA” and “CONMEBOL” in South America, opposed the FIFA plan, and threatened to boycott the additional World Cup finals.

But the two federations collect only 65 votes out of the 211 members of the FIFA Executive Board, less than a third of the potential blocking to block any proposal.

Last May, the Saudi Football Association submitted a proposal to establish the World Championship every two years, which was supported by the annual meeting of the “FIFA” Congress, where the local federations voted in favor of this proposal by 166 federations “for”, compared to 22 federations “against”.

“Consulting on this idea is simply a way to make football, and world football strong, and for this we need everyone’s help,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, adding, “This should not be taken as a challenge or a fight, we have to give football fans Football is more motivation to love the game.
The World Cup has been held every four years since the first edition in 1930, with the exception of World War II, when the 1942 and 1946 editions did not take place, and the Women’s World Cup has been held every four years since its inception in 1991.

Qatar will host the next World Cup in November 2022, and will automatically participate, along with the qualified Asian countries, while the United States, Mexico and Canada will host the 2026 edition.
