The president of the League reveals the reason for Messi’s departure from Barcelona… “It is not the financial crisis”
La Liga President Javier Tebas revealed today, Sunday, the real reason for the departure of Argentine star Lionel Messi from Barcelona, and stressed that the financial crisis is not the reason.
Javier Tebas confirmed, in statements to “Sport” newspaper, that “Messi’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain was avoidable,” saying: “I personally told Barcelona President Joan Laporta and his board of directors via a phone call, that solutions and a way out can be sought. If the reason for Messi’s departure was due to financial reasons.
He described Messi’s departure from the Spanish League as “the most painful”, compared to the departure of other stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, stressing that he is “the greatest player in history,” according to him.
He added, “I cannot be certain that Barcelona allowed Messi to leave the Spanish League for economic reasons,” continuing: “Let’s hope one day you will know the whole truth about what happened with Messi, but I confirm that the motive behind his departure was not financial.”
And Paris Saint-Germain announced last month, that Messi officially moved to him on a two-year free transfer contract with the option to renew for an additional season, after Barcelona failed, due to its financial crisis, to renew the contract of its leader and historical scorer.
