In a bid to promote tourism in the UAE during the upcoming Expo 2020, Emirates – partner and official airline of the Expo – has teamed up with Australian actor Chris Hemsworth for a new global campaign, filmed pre-covid and released to the world this week.

The one-and-a-half-minute video campaign, directed by two-time Oscar-winning director Robert Stromberg (“Avatar,” “Maleficent,” and “Alice in Wonderland”), comes less than 30-days until the hotly-anticipated Expo 2020 opens its doors on Oct. 1 in Dubai.

“You want to see the future, come on… This is Dubai and this is the world’s greatest show,” says the actor, best known for his role as Marvel superhero Thor, before he transports viewers from Dubai’s beaches and through its never-ending skyline to the Expo 2020 Dubai site, providing a glimpse into what’s in store at the participating country pavilions, to the soundtrack of Gene Wilder’s “Pure Imagination” re-interpreted by a 70-piece orchestra and featuring a children’s choir.

The futuristic ad campaign makes sure to highlight the upcoming Expo 2020’s focus on the themes of sustainability, technology, innovation and creativity.

As the video was filmed in 2019, while the Expo 2020 site was still under construction, it utilizes a myriad of CGI animations and visuals to convey what the event will look like.

In a press release, Hemsworth stated: “In 2019, I partnered with Emirates and Expo 2020 Dubai to help bring awareness to what is a really important event for the world. We all have the power to shape a better future, and the last year and a half has shown us that the possibilities are endless when we put our minds together. At Expo 2020 Dubai, the world will come together in the spirit of collaboration to provide real life solutions that will benefit future generations. If you’re able to travel and you feel it’s safe, I sincerely hope you can make it.”
