Moscow is studying the possibility of delivering aid to Kabul and sees the desire of the “Taliban” to establish contacts
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that Moscow is studying the possibility of delivering Russian humanitarian aid to Kabul.
Moscow – Sputnik. “In this regard, we call on the international community to take effective measures to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. For our part, we are studying the possibility of delivering Russian humanitarian aid to Kabul,” the spokeswoman told a press briefing.
“We also note the statements of a senior Taliban official (banned in Russia) Shahabuddin Dilawar, who called on foreign countries that hastily reduced their diplomatic missions to resume work, and this signal indicates the Taliban leadership’s readiness to develop relations with the international community,” she added.
And last Saturday, the Russian President’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said that “the Taliban movement’s access to power is a reality and we will have to improve bilateral relations with the new authority in Afghanistan under this new situation.”
Kabulov pointed out that the “Taliban” movement is currently acting and speaking as a national movement inside Afghanistan, considering that the militant movement today does not pose a threat to neighboring countries.
He added, “Now the Taliban movement does not speak only as a national movement, but acts as well, even if it is a political-military movement of a religious nature, they will not pose any threat to their neighbors.”
In response to a question about the possibility of the movement exporting its ideas to neighboring countries, the Russian diplomat said he believed that the movement would not try to export its ideas to the countries neighboring Afghanistan, adding: “I don’t think the Taliban will do that.”
