Nuts are known to be rich in omega-3 acids, and their important role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases by 15%, and reducing the risk of death from these diseases by 23%.

New studies showed the ability of nuts in general, and walnuts in particular, to reduce cholesterol levels, and the “Med Portal” website dealt with this study and its results in an article.
Dr. Emilio Ross, director of the Lebed Endocrinology Clinic, explained that the reason walnuts are associated with lower rates of heart disease and stroke is due to the change in the quality of the “bad” LDL cholesterol particles of different sizes and density, which is linked to the development of atherosclerosis.

A number of scientists evaluated the effect of eating walnuts on changes in the level of all lipoproteins in the blood, and the study authors tested the cholesterol levels and the size of lipoprotein particles in all participants, and found a significant decrease in levels of total cholesterol and levels of low-density lipoprotein.

The results of the study, which lasted for two factors, concluded that the consumption of nuts was associated with a decrease in the total amount of “bad” LDL cholesterol particles, especially small particles, and walnuts was associated with a decrease in medium-density lipoprotein, which was considered as an important marker for the risk of cardiovascular disease. .

The study found that the effect of nuts on men is stronger than on women, as their LDL levels decreased by about 9%, while they decreased in women by 2.6%. Therefore, scientists recommend eating a daily serving of nuts to maintain cardiovascular health.
