Saudi Arabia punishes a Snapchat celebrity with $53,000 for a coffee ad

The Saudi Ministry of Commerce decided to punish a famous Snapchat video site, for misleading consumers about a coffee product he promoted.

And the ministry said in its statement issued, yesterday, Thursday, that it had imposed a fine on the advertiser, Mansour Al-Ruqaiba, a famous “Snapchat” of $ 53,000.

The ministry also imposed a fine on a merchant who participated in the promotion of the advertisement, Ahmed Suleiman Al-Saif, with a fine of $80,000.

The Saudi Ministry of Commerce also issued a decision to stop Mansour Al-Ruqaiba from electronic commercial advertising for a period of two months, as well as banning merchant Ahmed Suleiman Al-Saif from practicing electronic commerce for the same period.

The Saudi Ministry indicated that both Al-Raqeeba and Al-Saif violated the rules of the “e-commerce system by advertising coffee products in the local market, deceiving and misleading the consumer and making misleading claims.”

In his first comment on the punishment issued against him by the Saudi Ministry of Commerce, Mansour Al-Raqeeba confirmed in a video clip that the ruling is “like honey on his tongue,” as he put it, because it is in the interest of the citizen.

The watchdog also thanked the Saudi Ministry of Justice for “the competent court issuing that correct ruling, and he also thanked the Saudi Ministry of Commerce for its concern for the consumer public,” he said.

He continued, pointing out that he had paid the fine signed on him (53,000 dollars), and had executed his two-month suspension.
