Princess Diana biopic Spencer has released a haunting new poster.

The new film will examine Diana, Princess of Wales during the Christmas holidays of 1991 as she spends time at Sandringham House with the Royal Family.

During this period in the film, Diana will decide that she must end her marriage to Charles, Prince of Wales.

Twilight and Personal Shopper actress Kristen Stewart will take on the role of Diana in the film, with Jack Farthing as Prince Charles.

Distributor Neon has now released a haunting new poster that shows Diana in a beautiful gown as she appears slumped on the floor and hunched over, apparently in tears but facing away from view.

The late Princess’ trademark hairstyle is visible in the shot, while she is also adorned with a pearl necklace.

Neon’s tweet sharing the poster reads: “Every fairy tale ends.”

Spencer is directed by Chilean director Pablo Larrain, best known for his acclaimed psychological drama and biopic Jackie, which centred on iconic the United States First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, played by Natalie Portman.

The performance from Portman earned the actress an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

Other actors cast in the film include Timothy Spall, Sean Harris, and Sally Hawkins.

Meanwhile, Olga Hellsing will play Diana’s sister-in-law and friend, Sarah, Duchess of York, while

Niklas Kohrt will portray Sarah’s husband, Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

Spencer will be scored by Radiohead lead guitarist and keyboardist Jonny Greenwood, who previously did the scores for acclaimed films such as There Will Be Blood, Phantom Thread, and You Were Never Really Here.

The film is due to premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2021 and will subsequently be shown at Toronto International Film Festival.
