Turkey designs a light combat laser

Meteksan Defense Industry Inc. For its design of a new ground laser system “Nizar” belonging to the Turkish air defenses.

The system was first revealed at the 15th IDEF 2021 International Defense Industry Fair.

The system manufacturer said that the ground laser is intended to protect military bases and other ground installations from enemy missiles.

The “Nizar” is able to neutralize missiles equipped with self-guided optical and infrared warheads. The system relies on laser blinding technology to disable the missiles from working.

The newspaper said that the “Nizar” system was designed according to an agreement signed with the Defense Industry Department in the Turkish President’s Office. The system design process has gone through several stages. The company proposes erecting the laser in the first stage on a mobile platform to be easily transported to wherever a combat situation is needed.

As for the energy to operate the laser, it is generated by a generator that supplies it, so it does not need an external power source.
