The press service of the Planetarium Center in Moscow announced today, Tuesday, that an asteroid of the class “2016 AJ193” will approach Earth on August 21, and it is likely to be dangerous, but it will not pose a real threat to our planet.

And data issued by the dome’s press service, obtained by “Sputnik”, indicated that “there is an entire class of asteroids called “near-Earth asteroids”, and the asteroid “2016 AJ193” will approach Earth at the closest possible distance by about 3.4 million km on August 21. The diameter of the flying asteroid is estimated at 1.4 km.
The scientists indicated that “in the entire history of observing objects of this type, asteroids have flown close to Earth and at much closer distances. In 2011, two asteroids with a size of 100 and 360 meters approached Earth by 384,000 km.”

The scientists noted that “the most dangerous thing is those celestial bodies that astronomers do not track and the world does not recognize until after the fall. This is the phenomenon of “Tunguska” and “Chelyabinsk meteorite.”

The scientists explained that “in the first case, it was the result of a massive explosion in the territory of the Podkamenaya Tunguska River Basin, in which a forest was cut down on an area of \u200b\u200bmore than 2,000 square kilometers, and in the second case, it was as a result of a series of explosions in the air, local residents sustained injuries from broken glass Thus, the danger is just “unexpected guests from space”.

And the scientists add: “Such events occur approximately once every 100 years.”

According to the dome’s media briefing, “One hundred years ago, there were more than 30 flights nearby, and, as a rule, all the expected asteroids flew in front of us unhindered.”
