The Russian world number two, Daniel, won the Toronto Tennis Championships, the fifth Masters 1000 points, by defeating American Ryan Opelka in the final in two sets.
It is the fourth time that Medvedev has won a Masters tournament in his professional career, and he needed 87 minutes to beat his opponent 6-4, 6-3.
Medvedev became the first Russian tennis player to win a title in Canada since Marat Safin 21 years ago, his fifth Masters final.
What an amazing week of tennis it was at the #NBO21.

After winning the title, Medvedev said, “When I started, I did not dream of reaching the Masters final. So far, I have played 5 finals and won 4 times. I am happy.”
Medvedev praised his 23-year-old American opponent, who is ranked 23 in the world, saying, “He had a great week and fought to the end. Playing the first Masters final is never easy. My first was in Canada and only scored 3 games.”
The Russian player will participate in the Cincinnati Championships, where he will be the first seed in the absence of Serbian Novak Djokovic, and then he will move to the US Open, which begins on the 30th of this month, and will be among the candidates for the title.
