Real Madrid sues a sports official over a $3.2 billion deal

Real Madrid, the Spanish football club, announced today, Tuesday, that it will file a civil and criminal case against a sports official in the country.

According to Reuters, the club will file a lawsuit against La Liga president Javier Tebas and Jaime Guijarro, president of CVC Private Equity, over their proposed 2.7 billion euro ($3.2 billion) deal.
Real Madrid also said that it will continue legal procedures to prevent approval of the proposed plan, which will be voted on by members of the league’s general assembly.

In contrast, La Liga said last week that the deal, called “La Liga Support”, would support clubs and give them money to spend on new infrastructure projects, in addition to increasing money spent on players’ salaries.

Real Madrid strongly opposed the deal, as it gives CVC a 10 percent stake in the league’s future television broadcasting rights.

Tebas responded to the statement with a message on his Twitter account, in which he criticized Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for using “threatening methods.”
