Last week, a bear attacked a group of tourists in the “Yergaki” reserve in the Krasnoyarsk Territory in eastern Siberia, killing one of them.
This came in a statement published by the reserve’s administration. The statement indicated that the bear’s attack on tourists is a second tragic accident that occurred in the reserve since the start of the tourist season.
The accident took place in the Nine Lakes region and the “Aradiense” mountain pass, where the bear attacked a tourist group comprising 4 persons who had undertaken a sports tour in the mountains. The police are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident.
A spokesman for the Department of the Interior Ministry in the Krasnoyarsk Territory said that the incident was officially registered, knowing that the bear attacked one of the tourists, while the rest of the tourists managed to escape from it. A team including policemen and fishermen will be directed to the area.
The administration of the “Yergaki” reserve sent a letter to the Ministry of Environment of the Krasnoyarsk Territory with a request to close the reserve or limit its visits by unorganized groups of tourists until November 1.
