The Tunisian president pledges to protect the democratic path and respect legitimacy, rights and freedoms
Sources from local organizations who met Tunisian President Kais Saied, including the powerful Labor Union, said that the president told them that he pledges to protect the “democratic path and protect rights and freedoms.”
The same sources said today, Tuesday, that Saeed told the organizations that the exceptional measures are temporary due to the deepening of the crisis, and that freedoms and rights will not be affected in any way.
During a meeting at the Carthage Palace with the heads of a number of national organizations, the Tunisian president presented, on Monday, messages of reassurance not to slip into the square of dictatorship, respect for individual and public rights and freedoms, respect the deadlines for implementing exceptional measures, and announcing the composition of the new government within days.
Saeed also stressed, during a phone call with US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, yesterday evening, Monday, his keenness to respect legitimacy, rights and freedoms.
He explained that the measures that have been taken fall within the framework of implementing Chapter 80 of the Constitution to protect constitutional institutions, protect the state and achieve social peace.
