A Japanese government spokesman said on Friday that police and authorities in the western city of Izumisano were searching for a missing Ugandan athlete.

The official NHK television network said that the athlete is a weightlifter, and that a city official in Osaka Prefecture noticed his disappearance during an examination to detect the emerging corona virus, according to “Reuters”.

The Olympic Games start on July 23 in Tokyo, Japan.

Japan had announced earlier that the organizers had decided to prevent fans from attending the Olympics due to the increase in cases of the “Corona” virus in Japan and the declaration of a state of emergency in the capital.

The authorities urged residents to stop traveling between regions during the summer holidays and during Obon Memorial Day, when Japanese traditionally go to their relatives.
