Scientists: The mutated Delta strain of Corona began to prevail in South Africa

Scientists in South Africa said during a press conference, today, Saturday, June 26, that the mutated strain “Delta” discovered in India appears to be the predominant one among the newly emerging Corona virus infections in the country.

South Africa is the most affected country in the African continent in terms of the number of confirmed cases and deaths of “Covid 19”.

The country is facing a “third wave” of infection, as it recorded more than 18,000 new cases on Friday, according to Reuters.

The agency quoted Mamoloko Kobaye Ngobani, Acting Minister of Health, during the conference as saying that the peak of the third wave will likely exceed the peak of the second wave, which was in January.
