An American and his son confess to helping Carlos Ghosn escape from Japan

An American and his son pleaded guilty to helping former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn escape from Japan illegally in a box on a private jet in 2019.

Michael Taylor, a former US Special Forces soldier, and his son Peter answered “no” when the judge asked them whether there was any objection to the accusations against them from the Tokyo prosecutor’s office.

This is their first appearance in court as part of their trial on charges of helping the Lebanese businessman escape, according to “Reuters”.

Last March, they were deported from the United States to Japan. They are being held in the same cell in Tokyo where Ghosn was held, and they may face up to 3 years in prison.

Ghosn was the president of Nissan and Mitsubishi, and CEO of Renault when he was arrested in Japan in 2018 on charges of understating his salary and using company money for personal purposes.

Ghosn fled to Lebanon in December 2019 on a private plane that took off from Kansai Airport and has remained in the Arab country since that date.
