“NDTV” channel reported that the total number of people infected with “black fungus” in India rose to 31,216, while the number of deaths due to it reached 2,109.
The channel said that the largest number of new infections was recorded in Maharashtra (7057 injuries and 609 deaths), followed by Gujarat (5418 injuries and 323 deaths).

On May 26, the Indian Minister of Chemical Industry and Fertilizer Production, Sadananda Govda, announced that 11,717 cases of “black fungus” had been recorded. The channel quoted a source as saying that one of the main reasons for the increase in the number of people infected with the disease is due to the severe shortage of antifungal drugs.

Experts pointed out that the fungal disease, also known as “black mold” (Mucormycosis), is recorded in people with coronavirus who have been in the intensive care unit and receiving steroids or oxygen support for a long time. This disease is also recorded in diabetics who receive large doses of steroids for a long time.
