Dali’s mask…a symbol of protest in the world

The Spanish series “La Casa de Papel” (House of Cards and House of Money) is the most famous series in recent years, the most successful in the world of foreign series and the most watched in the history of the American “Netflix” platform.

The plot of the series revolves around a very typical story for a movie about theft. Several “charismatic” heroes contemplate a daring plan to rob the Spanish royal mint.

One of the most distinctive elements of the thief’s image in this series is the red suit and mask that resembles the face of the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali .

The image of the “provocative” artist perfectly coincides with the image of the heroes of the series, who through their actions express their rejection of the established capitalist model of society.

The protesting spirit of the series’ heroes fell in love with demonstrators in several countries around the world. Masked demonstrators with a face resembling “Dali” went out to rallies in Spain and Puerto Rico, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of the governor, and during protests and demonstrations in France, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine and others.

It is reported that in Cyprus, in the city of Limassol in particular, local carnival organizers prevented the use of these costumes for security purposes.

It can not but add that the song ” Ciao Bella ” (Bella Ciao), which was displayed several times in the series, are popular among certain protest movements. And the series contributed to the dissemination of this song to the public street. In fact, this song was sung by Italian anti-fascists between 1943-1945 during the resistance against Nazi Germany.
