The death of one of the most prominent faces of Lebanese football, who entered the Guinness Book of Records with his achievements

Today, Tuesday morning, Lebanese media announced the death of one of the most prominent faces of Lebanese football, Adnan Al-Sharqi, at the age of 80, after a long struggle with illness.

The website of the sports magazine “Shot” stated that Al-Sharqi transferred the military hospital in Beirut after his health deteriorated.

According to the magazine, Al-Sharqi began his sports career in the early fifties, as his name was associated with the Al-Ansar Club, a recent establishment at the time, and he also played for the traditional rival Al-Najma, in the sixties for a short period, as well as an experience in Egypt during his university studies in Cairo, then he returned to Al-Ansar in 1967 as a player As a coach, he started a career full of accomplishments and titles.

With the return of official championships in Lebanon, after years of interruption due to the civil war, Al-Sharqi led Ansar to dominate the popular game, as he was crowned champion of the General League 11 consecutive times between 1988 and 1999, and recorded this number in the Guinness Book of Records, as well as many Titles in the rest of the competitions, to good Asian and Arab participation. He also supervised the training of the Lebanese national team during the USA 1994 World Cup qualifiers.
Al-Ansar Club and the Lebanese Football Association mourned the eastern coach, on his official Facebook page: “The Lebanese Federation expresses its deep sadness and regret for the loss of the Lebanese football, one of its pillars, which had great imprints in the Lebanese stadiums,” describing his departure as an irreparable loss.
