The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it had summoned Colombia’s ambassador to Moscow, Alfonso Lopez Caballero, after its defense minister’s statements about Russia’s involvement in cyber attacks against his country.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the ambassador was summoned to the ministry today, May 24, for the Russian side to express to him “astonishment at the unfounded and unfounded allegations of the Colombian Defense Minister, Diego Molano, about cyber attacks that were directed from Russia.”

The statement continued, “Mulano’s statement came in the context of his talk about an alleged foreign intervention whose aim was to fuel political instability and mass protests in Colombia.”

The ministry indicated that Moscow had repeatedly offered Bogota a dialogue in the field of international cybersecurity and confirmed its willingness to cooperate with it in this field, adding: “If the Colombian side has realistic evidence indicating the occurrence of cyber attacks and if it is really interested in determining its source, then there are channels for this purpose. Formal information exchange and appropriate infrastructure. ”

The statement stated that the relevant Russian agencies had previously directed Bogota to a draft agreement on legal aid between the two countries, but the Colombian side refused to discuss it. He added, “We once again call on our partners to respond to our calls, in order to avoid any misunderstanding in the future,” stressing Moscow’s readiness to cooperate with Colombian colleagues on all issues in order to maintain relations characterized by “a spirit of friendship and mutual respect.”

Earlier, the Colombian Minister of Defense announced, in press statements, that Russia was involved in the protests in his country, referring to the demonstrations against tax reform that Colombia has been taking place since April 28, which has so far left about two thousand injured and at least 42 dead.
