Olivia Rodrigo’s acting career has helped her music

Olivia Rodrigo thinks her acting career has helped her in the music business.

The 18-year-old singer recently released her debut album after starring in ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’, and Olivia explained how her acting has benefited her in the newest phase of her career.

Olivia – who released her new album, ‘Sour’, earlier this month – told the BBC: “Acting definitely comes into play for me when I’m recording. I’m so into it, I will screw up my face and act out every word I’m singing.

“I think that makes the performance on the eventual record so much more impactful.”

The teenage star topped the charts around the world with her single ‘Drivers License’, and Olivia admits she can barely believe her own success.

She said: “There’s a feature on Spotify where you can see how many people are listening to a song at any given moment, and I remember going, ‘Oh my God, 60,000 people are listening to ‘Drivers License’, right now.’ That was insane.

“I couldn’t wrap my head around that number.”

And although the track has become a global success, Olivia has retained a strong connection to the song.

She explained: “I personally always felt such a connection to that song.

“I would listen to it in my car alone if I was feeling sad because it perfectly captured how I was feeling, in a way that songs I’d written before didn’t.”

Meanwhile, Olivia recently confessed to being an “oversharer”.

The singer says her approach to songwriting is an “extension” of her eagerness to be open and honest in her everyday life.

She explained: “I’ve always been such an oversharer.

“I’ll tell my Uber driver all of my deepest traumas and insecurities, and so I just think songwriting for me is an extension of that aspect of my personality. I’ve never really been so terrified of people learning about the intimate parts of myself; I think that’s what makes songwriting so special.”
