The leader of the “There is a future” party and the candidate in charge of forming the new Israeli government, Yair Lapid, said that the country’s current political leadership had failed to deal with the current escalation around the Gaza Strip.

Today, Thursday, Lapid wrote on his Facebook page that 11 days after the launch of Operation Guardian of the Walls, its conclusions can be drawn, saying: “The army has fulfilled the mission that was assigned to it, and the government has failed.”

The leader of the opposition in the Knesset leveled harsh criticism against the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pointing to the lack of shelters in cities and towns on the cover of the Gaza Strip, in addition to Hamas’ victory on the liberal media platform in clarifying its positions on the latest developments.

Lapid held the government responsible for the transformation of “Hamas” into an advanced force in the Palestinian arena, stressing the need to weaken the movement by military and civilian means, and to use the “carrot and stick” method in this regard, while benefiting from the experience of the Second Lebanon War.

Lapid touched on relations between Israel and the new US administration, noting that President Joe Biden, who initially supported the new operation in Gaza, asked after 11 days to end it after the Israeli army had achieved all its goals.

“Israel cannot ignore this request, and we face challenges much more dangerous than Gaza, which are Iran, the nuclear agreement, tension in Syria, and activating the role of” Hezbollah, “all of which awaits us in the future, and we need in all these issues close coordination with the Americans, Lapid added.

Lapid suggested that the outbreak of a new round of military conflict around Gaza can only be avoided through the formation of a new government that will be able to mobilize the international community’s support for the reconstruction of Gaza and disarming Hamas.
