Earlier, the United States of America blocked, for the third time, the issuance of a joint statement by the UN Security Council calling for a ceasefire between the Palestinians and Israel.
The closed sessions of the UN Security Council considered a draft statement submitted by China, Tunisia and Norway, on Monday and Wednesday, last week, and 14 of the 15 members of the council supported the draft statement.
Adoption of the statement requires unanimous approval, but according to diplomatic sources, the United States opposed issuing it.
