51

A fire occurred in a chemical plant in the municipality of Pezón, northwest of Paris, on Thursday, French radio “France Bleu” reported, while local authorities feared pollution of the environment.

The factory of the “Protec Industrie” company where the fire occurred, processes metals, and has the European classification “Seveso”, which indicates the presence of dangerous substances for humans in the factory.

“There is a risk of contamination of the soil and river water,” said Deputy Mayor Nicolas Barnes.

At the same time, the radio quoted the emergency services as saying that the risk of water pollution is minimal, as all security measures were taken during the construction of the factory to prevent this from happening.

A video recording filmed by eyewitnesses shows that thick clouds of black smoke are rising above the factory on the coast of the Seine, but the area of the fire is not specific.

Barnier said that local authorities decided to evacuate the factory workers and residents of the surrounding areas, without providing any information on how many people were evacuated. There is still no news of injuries from the fire.
