The US Navy said today, Tuesday, that military crews fired warning shots in the Gulf, after three Iranian Revolutionary Guard ships approached their ships.

Washington – Sputnik. “The crews issued multiple warnings over the radio, but the Iranian Revolutionary Guard ships continued their maneuvers close by. Then the (Firebolt) crew fired warning shots, and the Iranian ships moved away to a safe distance,” the US Navy statement said.
The closest Iranian offshore fast attack boat that reached the US ships was 68 yards (204 feet) during the Monday’s accident in international waters in the northern Gulf, Reuters reported.

Earlier today, the US Navy announced that ships from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy had harassed to cut off the US Coast Guard in the Gulf waters.

The spokeswoman for the Fifth Fleet, Rebecca Rebarish, said that the US Navy was conducting routine patrols in international waters in the Gulf on April 2, before 3 fast attack boats and an Iranian support ship approached them, which prompted an American ship to maneuver to avoid collision.

She stated that this harassment lasted for about 3 hours, despite repeated warnings, considering that the Iranian procedures are “unsafe and unprofessional” and increase the risk of collision.

“In addition, the actions of Iranian ships ignored internationally recognized maritime rules and international regulations for preventing collisions at sea,” she said.
