The United Kingdom owns a special type of road called smart highways or “Smart Motorway”, but it has become a reason for organizing campaigns to cancel them after they caused many accidents.

These roads use techniques known as active traffic management techniques to manage traffic on these roads with appropriate levels for the benefit of the safety level on those roads.

But these roads cause many tragedies, as the British newspaper “The Independent” says, which indicated that smart roads have killed dozens of motorists during the past years.

The newspaper pointed out that there are campaigns to claim the British Supreme Court against these roads, noting that the story of Derek Jacob, who learned to drive when he was 17 years old and had been driving cars since then until he was 83 years old.

The newspaper says: “For 66 years, Jacob drove his car and did not have an accident during that period and was able to teach his wife and children to drive cars and was intending to do so with his grandchildren.”

On March 22, 2019, however, he had an accident as a result of his car’s tire exploding, but he was able to continue driving and controlling it without using the brakes until it stopped at the side of the road.

But unfortunately for him, it was the lunch hour when the place where he stopped was opened to become a passage for cars to cross at a speed of 70 km / hour, and this resulted in a terrible accident that led to his car being overwhelmed by passing cars, and as a result he was killed.

Because of this accident and other similar incidents, calls have spread to cancel those roads in Britain, especially as they may cause minor accidents, such as a car tire explosion, to turn into a disaster, noting that the number of people killed on those roads in just 6 years has reached 53 people.
