Charlotte Crosby slams Channel 5 for plastic surgery documentary

Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby has called out Channel 5 over a documentary about her plastic surgery. The star, who has been open about having procedures, was the subject of the second episode of the channel’s controversial two-part series, Celebrities: What’s Happened to Your Face?

The episode – which aired on Thursday (April 22) – focused on the changing appearance of the former I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and The Circle contestant, as well as that of Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone.

Taking to Twitter on Friday (April 23), Crosby slammed the show in a lengthy message in which she questioned why Channel 5 and the producers of the show, Crackit Productions, “believed it would be a good use of airtime to dissect [her] physical appearance”.

She opened up about how much trolling she’s experienced for her appearance over the years and noted that she’s had “a public battle” with the way she looks, which included “personal trauma and issues of self-confidence”.

Crosby wrote that she found out the show had been commissioned back in March 2020 and explained that her “appalled” agent made it clear that they found it “immoral” and “insensitive”, while also highlighting the effect it could have on the reality star’s mental health. She suggested they urged Crackit Productions not to go ahead with the programme, and only found out that it would be airing this week after spotting it in the TV listings.

Crosby went on to criticise Channel 5 and similar channels for giving what she thought was “space to programmes which destroy the mental health of its subjects”.

She added: “That hour could have educated the public [on] the many issues & good causes which need publicity” before closing off her message by writing, “When is enough enough? Just because we’re in the public eye, doesn’t mean we aren’t human. Fortunately I’m strong enough to deal with it but many aren’t!!”
