Vin Diesel battles John Cena in new trailer for Fast & Furious F9

The COVID-19 pandemic pushed back the release of the final Fast & Furious film by more than one year.

But Vin Diesel is back to battle for — and against — his family as John Cena makes his debut as Dominic Toretto’s long-lost brother in an explosive new trailer for F9 released on Wednesday morning.

Dom had been leading a quiet life off the grid when he was forced to confront his past in an epic new edit which shows the cast reaching new heights in their need for speed as they launch into space.

‘The world has a way of changing, and we change too,’ Vin Diesel’s character Dom Toretto echoed in the background. ‘There are moments that separate us, but we always come back together.’

After their last big adventure, Dom settled down and set up shop with Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) and their son Brian in a remote area.

‘We heard y’all needed a little love out here,’ Tyrese’s character Roman Pearce could be heard screaming as he arrived at the countryside auto shop.

‘Ya’ll ever thought about the wild missions we’ve been on? We’ve taken our trains, planes, tanks … I’m not going to even think about the submarines,’ Roman told the group. ‘Now we’ve got cars flying in the air?’

The group was back together again to fight against evil in the form of Dom’s long-lost brother Jakob.

‘You always say never turn your back on family, but you turned your back on me,’ he told Dom. ‘Now your little family is in my world.’

‘Brother against brother … this should be interesting,’ Charlize Theron’s cyberterrorist character Cipher said. ‘But could you kill him?’

‘I’ve spent my entire life in your shadow, and now, you spend the rest of yours living in mine,’ Jakob told Dom.

Dom is forced to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most and his crew joins together to save the world.

The film was originally set to be released in May last year but had been pushed back by eleven months to April 2, 2021 before being delayed again to May 28, and the release date has once again been changed to June 25.

Justin Lin directed the movie which is the sequel to The Fate of the Furious (2017); he previously directed three other films in the franchise: Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011) and Fast & Furious 6 (2013).

F9 also stars Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, with appearances by Helen Mirren, Cardi B and Reggaeton singer Ozuna.

It was revealed in October that the series will conclude with a tenth and an eleventh installment, with Vin and the cast set to return for both.
