After it was one of the countries in the world least affected by the epidemic, the rate of “Covid 19” disease rose to the highest level in the world, in a rapid development that took days.

And government data released late on Monday showed that Uruguay recorded 71 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths to 1,533 in the country of 3.4 million people.
The country has recorded nearly 1,300 deaths – nearly 90 percent – since January of this year (a third of them since the start of April only). Over the past week, the average number of epidemic deaths has exceeded 50 per day.

According to “Agence France Presse” statistics, Uruguay recorded an infection rate of 1370 cases per 100,000 people in the last 14 days, which is the highest ever, as no other country has exceeded 1,000 injuries per 100,000 people in this period.

Uruguay was seen as an example in the war against “Covid 19”, and it has never imposed a curfew or a closure, and despite calls from some health experts, companies, bars and restaurants are still open.

President Louis Lacal Poe, in a press briefing last month, rejected any idea of a lockdown or quarantine and stressed the importance of personal responsibility for individual citizens, saying, “It is a matter of principle.”
